Boca Grande, Florida
(2004- ) 111 Damficare Street, Boca Grande, Florida 33921
“It’s easier to view current [tarpon fishing] practices in Boca Grande pass as a criminal enterprise than a sporting one. Given all the loco and corrupt politicians in Tallahassee it would be naive to expect adult action on this but one can always hope. Further stressing these often fifty year old fish in one of the world’s greatest concentration of sharks should arouse the indignation with anyone possessed of even a minimal sense of fairness.” –Tom McGuane

“Summertime in Montana I become a monosyllabic baboon. I want to ride with the cowboys, go to bran dings, doctor cattle and train my horses. But in a few months the snow starts to fly, the days become shorter, the yellow color of interior light becomes delicious. I look at my shelves and every book just glows, and I want to be inside of that.” –Tom McGuane

The house is a striking, century-old log cabin. A converted bunkhouse functions as McGuane’s study. Next to his computer sits a gun cabinet; on the porch are waders and a pair of nearly fossilized socks. The Boulder River, roaring 10 feet away, is so loud that McGuane must close his door when he writes.
