Thomas Pynchon dueling in a cemetery?

For years, rumors have swirled about a picture of Richard Fariña and Thomas Pynchon dueling in a cemetery.

Baxter Hathaway in a 1978 article in the Cornell Daily Sun refers to a photo of Pynchon and Farina in costumes of Parisian gentleman of the 1840s(?), duelling in Mt. Olivet cemetery off State Street, that was published in a joke edition of the Cornell Daily Sun in October of 1959.

Laws of Silence offers an excellent analysis of this mystery.

Is that Pynchon on the left?
